Civil Aviation Authority Vision Examinations
The Civil Aviation Authority has specific vision requirements for Class 1, 2 and 3 medical certificates. John Boyle and Priyanka Fernandes are CAA-approved optometrists and can complete the required vision examinations.
-
Class 1: Commercial & Airline Transport Pilots
-
Class 2: Private Pilots
-
Class 3: Air Traffic Controllers
CAA vision examinations take approximately one hour and may include a dilated fundus examination, where drops are used to enlarge the pupils. If your pupils are dilated, your vision may be affected for several hours, so you may wish to arrange someone to drive you home.
Please bring your photo ID, any relevant CAA documentation, and the glasses or contact lenses you currently use. If you use a standby pair of glasses for flying, please bring these too.
NZ Police Vision Examinations
Our optometrists are NZ Police-accredited Level 1 vision examiners. NZ Police has specific vision standards, including requirements for corrected and uncorrected vision, visual fields and colour vision.
If you have had eye surgery, NZ Police requires both Level 1 and Level 2 sections of the visual examination report. We can complete the Level 1 examination and arrange an external referral for the Level 2 assessment.
