Optometrist & Director
Kerry Bennett
I enjoy looking beyond the obvious to find the vision solution that best suits each person, their eyes and the way they live.
Getting to know Kerry
I studied optometry at Cardiff University in Wales, qualifying in 1992, before becoming a member of the British College of Optometrists the following year.
I spent the next several years practising in Europe before moving to Jamaica in 1998, where I worked across a number of optometry practices. I later settled in New Zealand with my family and now call Whanganui home.
For me, optometry is about going the extra mile to solve visual problems. There is rarely only one possible solution, so I enjoy taking the time to understand how each person uses their vision and exploring the different options available.
Finding the solution that works best for the individual — rather than simply choosing the most obvious option — is what I continue to enjoy most about optometry.

Outside the consulting room
Outside of optometry, I’m happiest when I’m active and outdoors. I enjoy tramping, cycling and running, and more recently I’ve added kayaking to the mix — often getting out on the river at lunchtime or over the weekend.
One of my favourite challenges is the stair race at the Masters Games. I enjoy having something to work towards and am usually happiest when there’s an adventure, challenge or bit of exercise involved.
